Today’s quote is from a candidate for sainthood, Dorothy Day.
JOURNALIST • FOUNDER OF THE CATHOLIC WORKER MOVEMENT • CANDIDATE FOR SAINTHOOD
A Bohemian intellectual in her youth, this socialist journalist became a model Catholic convert. Dorothy put her newfound faith into practice through social justice activism as a voice of compassion and mercy during the Great Depression and beyond. Besides advocating for equality and pacifism, she was the founding editor of the Catholic Worker, a popular newspaper that launched a movement to bring dignity to everyday people. Farming communes, charitable centers, and homeless shelters were founded around the country according to Dorothy’s openhearted principle – accepting all in need for as long as help is needed.
